STATEN ISLAND, NY -- ALL SHORES -- More than 200 football stars lit up the night at Monsignor Farrell High School in Oakwood recently as part of the SI Lions Pop Warner Challenger Football Bowl.
The inaugural bowl started with the National Anthem, performed by Laura Walsh-Moylan, as all the players lined the field.
The games kicked off and lasted for over an hour and a half. Many of the volunteers were players from the upper division tackle programs who acted as "buddies" to assist the participants on the field.
Many families came out to pitch in and so did many local businesses, including: the Dr. Theodore Atlas Foundation; Financial Solutions Group; Adco Electrical Corp.; Blade General Contracting; Legend's Sporting Goods; Maddalena's Wine & Liquor; Rising Results; Dr. John Zafaranloo; I'll Be Seeing You Optical; Jute Salon; Planet Wings of S.I.; Spirit Student Tours; Team 3 Screenprinting, and Cabaret Tent & Party Rentals.
"This event would not have been possible without the efforts of the Central Jersey Pop Warner and the president Jim Simmons and Challenger Commissioner Sue Buettel who brought this event to Staten Island," said Rick Clark, program director.
Anyone interested in joining the program can contact the SI Lions at 718-667-0241 or visit the group's Web site, www.statenislandlions.org
